The first ever Tandem BASE Jump completed off of Brazil’s famous Tabuleiro Waterfall (1000’) Andy + Bruno.

I first heard about Tabuleiro in about 2012, making the 2022 jump a ten year goal come to fruition. The Tabuleiro waterfall is 1000’ and seems to be stolen straight out of the Movie Avatar; as if you were plucked off the Earth and plopped onto Pandora. BASE jump Moab traveled there to complete a Tandem BASE jump off the mouth of the waterfalls spillway; however, that goal came with a list of challenges.
The first and foremost challenge was how to get there. Just in terms of flying to Brazil, renting a car, and driving to the waterfall…. This challenge seemed straight forward— but wow! Was it a struggle. Our car was jam packed with gear and people and we had all just completed a BASE with the BoBs course with Scotty Bob Morgan and Ben Dicko; both master fliers. They were helping Brit Zale and I reach terminal velocity and use the power of this. The course was amazing, comprehensive, and being in beautiful Brazil was icing on the cake. Not only were we training in wonderland, we were living in a Jungle Palace. It was heavenly. We checked the maps and we only had…. 12 hours of driving… to get to Tabuleiro. SURE THING! We left with stoke and drove into a glorious mess of dirt roads, chaotic traffic jams, and endless pot holes. It was the most dangerous thing that we did on the entire trip. Hands down. It made me feel like Tandem BASE would feel like church once we were at the exit. When we arrived at our sweet little hotel— we ran into Chase Phillips, or Adrenaline Addiction online— and got to say hi to him as he was leaving. He gave us some beta and made us even more excited for the journey.
I had two Brazilian friends showing up to help us to the top of the waterfall. It was actually Gustavo and Caio that were the Slackliners that introduced me to the area 10 years ago. They were highliners turned base jumper like me and we had been needing to meet for a decade. The fact that we met here was serendipitous and they also brought a local rock climber who wanted to meet me with them; Bruno. It was actually Bruno who ended up being my Tandem passenger! Serendipity again. He’d been rock climbing at this location for a decade himself, dreamed of jumping the falls, but never had created or had the opportunity until now. We all got stoked to make the hike and jump the falls!
We grabbed PFD’s from the National Park entrance and I wanted these because the landing at Tabuleiro is a water landing… Or you can crash into a boulder field! I wanted to take the water option— and I really didn’t want to drown, or have my passenger drown either. We hiked through a wonderland of beautiful flowers, cactuses, saw spiders, snakes, birds, and other plants. We went through a maze of beautifully water carved canyons blessed with a river of rusty red water, filled entirely with minerals collected from its run through the jungle. It was one of those places that you felt like you never wanted to leave— and then we got to the exit. The rest is history!
